Have you ever been to a party with your wife/husband/significant other and start telling a story. As your speaking, that person cuts in and finishes your sentence. Google Instant is like that person only they interupt you on every word you type. In Google Instant, each time you type a letter, Google predicts what your typing and shows search results that change with each letter you type.
either your going to like Google Instant, or you are going to hate it. There is no in between. How will Google Instant affect domains? I have heard thoughts on each side, however I think we have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, if it lowers Google’s revenue, it will be stopped. Unfortunately, I cant say that about people finishing your sentences.
I promptly turned off Google Instant, I find it too annoying and distracting. Search Suggest is enough for me.
@michael
I know a few people that have also turned it off. I hope there will be a way after a month or 2, to see the % of people that use it vs turn it off.
The change will defiantly have impact on website traffic. Also if Google roles out this change completely to the open public it might not be that much of a negative or positive change in the U.S.! I do predict it will be negative in Europe.
Europeans are not that crazy about changes and Google rules over 90% of the European search market, which means,what is there to win?
For Google there is much more to lose in Europe. Even if 20 % of Google users dislike the new way of search. That’s a huge market to lose to Bing or Yahoo.
Once people have switched and got used to a different search engine, it’s hard to get them back and by the time Google realizes it’s loosing market shares? It could be to late!
So once more. Why change something if it works and your already in possession of 90% market share? Is the other 10 % worth that kind of risk?
This change will be very interesting to watch. I bet it will be costly for Google and will not last!
@Duane: Let’s be honest, by almost all metrics Google is lightyears ahead of Y/B. That’s because their quality is lightyears ahead of Microsoft. Point being, this is just a UI option not a core quality issue.
So even if G lost 20%, they could get them back pretty quickly just because they’re better. Bing losing to Google on the other hand is a one-way street. And Microsoft is far too broken to even come close to changing this. Imho.
google puts in words and phrases that are totally unrelated to what you are going to type.there is nothing instant about what happened in the past.
another failure rammed down the publics throat by google.
in other words google instant is a liability putting in words and phrases that distracts you from your intended destination.
