According To Mcafee, 36.7% of all .cm sites are used to for phishing and spam activities or to serve up a virus. Interesting, .com was number 2 on the list at 32.3%, up from 5.3% last year.
Here are the top 10 riskiest tld’s to visit:
1 – cameroon .CM 36.7%
2 – Commercial .COM 32.3%
3 – Peoples Republic of China .CN 23.4%
4 – Samoa WS 17.8%
5 – Information – .INFO 17.8%
6 – Philippines PH 13.1%
7 – Network .NET 5.8%
8 – Former Soviet Union SU 5.2%
9 – Russia RU 4.6%
10 – Singapore SG 4.6%
Wow, that’s really surprising that .PH enters the top 6 in the malicious sites considering that it is $35 / year to register and minimum of 2 years. Lots of people are finding it expensive and I’m sure virus spreaders would find that expensive too?
Yeah and what is even more amazing, that McAfee scanned 80K .CM domains and found 50K domains “dangerous”, whereas the registry has only 20K domains registered / in the zone file.
Who cares? The internet is far too big to be sitting tight about domain extension danger factors like this. Use Linux/Unix/OS X and stop shifting in your seat about viruses! If you insist on Win-doze, get a good 3rd party anti-virus tool. Let’s have more interesting metrics, this is chicken feed..
