Congratulations to NameMedia on Smartname and Afternic sale.

Written on September 20th, 2013 by directnavigationno shouts

About 7 years ago, we sold Smartname.com to Namemedia. At that time we built the company from one of the first domain parking programs to a leader in it’s field. We knew we put the company and it’s clients (our friends) into the good hands. Namemedia took the foundation that we built and continued to add to it and grow.
I want to offer my congratulations to Kelly Conlin, Bob Mountain and the rest of their team on the sale of Smartname to Godaddy.

US Online Ad Revenue Soars

Written on September 30th, 2011 by directnavigationno shouts

For the six month period ending June 30Th,2011, online ad revenue hit a new all time record stopping just short of $15 billion. That’s a 23% increase over the same period in 2010.

Half the revenue came from search and 37% represented display ads.

It seems that domainers are part of one of the few growth areas in this struggling economy. However with domainers ppc revenues falling the past year or two, someone seems to forgotten to tell Yahoo and Google that our revenue should be rising and not falling.

Google Instant Predicts What Your Thinking. Whats So Special – So Does My wife.

Written on September 9th, 2010 by directnavigation5 shouts

Have you ever been to a party with your wife/husband/significant other and start telling a story. As your speaking, that person cuts in and finishes your sentence. Google Instant is like that person only they interupt you on every word you type. In Google Instant, each time you type a letter, Google predicts what your typing and shows search results that change with each letter you type.
either your going to like Google Instant, or you are going to hate it. There is no in between. How will Google Instant affect domains? I have heard thoughts on each side, however I think we have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, if it lowers Google’s revenue, it will be stopped. Unfortunately, I cant say that about people finishing your sentences.

How I turned a domain making less than a dollar a day into one making 18k per year.

Recently, I took a long look at my domains. I ran various analysis patterns. Some names have dropped in revenue while other names are actually making more money than they did last year at the same time. As i went over the lists, one domain popped out. This domain used to be a constant earner, but had dropped down over the past few months to practically nothing. I decided to investigate. I called the parking company with which I had this name parked. They were at a loss, or more precise, I was at a loss and wanted to know if they can think of any reasons that would help me get this name to perform better. It turned out that the name been banned by the primary PPC. Banning a name can be for a variety of reasons, some of which are just stupid. (FYI – You can appeal a ban and many times the ban will be taken off. This was not done in this situation.) After it was banned, the parking company had put the name on a secondary feed, but the revenue from that feed was terrible for this name. I decided to try a third feed. Guess what? The name is making over $50 per day. That an $18,000 per year improvement.
I suggest when you look at your domain revenue reports, see if there has been a large drop in any one name. If so, make sure it has not been banned from the parking companies primary feed provider. If it has, make sure you try a different feed provider.
