Should Google buy Facebook? What would happen if these two major Internet companies merged? This is a question I’ve been thinking about for a while. After all you have two of largest Internet companies who are both dominant forces in their fields. This will form one company that would become a gigantic Internet monster. Google has tons of cash built up. What better way than spending their cash reserves on buying Facebook. However, I would for see a problem with both regulators approving the deal and current Facebook partner, Microsoft letting this happen. But, for a second. imagine all the information at this new company. This new company would basically control the net. Your thoughts?
Don’t believe Google can afford to make an offer to Facebook, nor would Facebook be interested in accepting if they did.
There is absolutely no way the DOJ would allow such a deal to close. Google is obviously aware of this and is why they can’t (and won’t) make a play for Facebook.

I tend to agree, but i wonder if such an offer did occur, if microsoft or apple would come into the picture as possible buyers. Facebook is going nowhere but up for the next few years.

Technically Google could afford a Facebook deal….but why go “all in” and tie your hands for the next 10 years with this one huge acquisition?
My advice to Google…wait patiently for the next Facebook and close the acquisition before it reaches 5% market share, thus avoiding any regulator review. Repeat strategy with the next 10 hopefuls as well.

It would depend on the price but I cant see the value to Facebook of having Google own them?
For google there only interest I believe would be to get there hands on 1,100,000,000,000 display ads that were served to US Internet users in Q1.
I dont know what else they would want with it apart from the ad space and Facebook seem to be doing ok themself just now so I doubt this deal will ever happen but who knows.
I think in the future we shall start to see Facebook buy out others to develop themself in more detail.

facebook is viral. It continues to grow at amazing rates. when we were out at the santa clara traffic, we had lunch with the cfo of facebook and one of the top VC’s in Silicon valley.At the time, I listened to what they were saying but couldn’t see their vision. I understand it now and think they are so far ahead of the curve.

Google… They are into so many INTERESTING Areas of
Development… I wish Google would have more of a
Photobook of their r TOP Folks with Interviews, CVs,
Bio Profiles… etc… That would be super Interesting to review… (can’t help it – I am a nosey gal… LOL)

Google has got its own agenda and budgets while Facebook will not be sold so cheap as they got the traffic and arbitrage ads will boost their profits & value sky high.
But Facebook should enhance and modify their site radically including user provacy concerns, ads interface, gateway for payment for ads, and they should pay the users like adsense for showing the ads at their profile page if clicked..
I’m sure they wish to have facebook on their hand, but not sure if they can afford it.
What Google wouldn’t do for all that information… I think it’s a legal matter, and agree the DOJ wouldn’t allow it. I think Google would love to, but probably know they can’t.
Mark you are wrong! Facebook is worth an est. $50-Billion, And Google are worth $161-Billion, so technically yes they can afford to make such a deal, but the deal would never happen on either end because they specialise in two different fields and have there own projects that are all costing money right now, and would be a big risk to Google to make such a deal, Microsoft and apple two software giants! would find away to quash such a deal if the rare deal was to be disclosed.
